To Festival or not to Festival?

How many gay guys actually enjoy weekend festivals?  How many of us relish the opportunity to really go wild and let all our hair down, to break it out on an uneven, rough and rugged dance floor, kicking up dust and getting a little dirty?  This past weekend, I found myself jamming it out in a valley amongst vineyards and peach tree plantations at a trance festival called The Village out in Franschoek.

Standing in a sea of people dancing with a lover, we were approached by oodles of women that just wanted to hug and kiss us and try get involved.  One girl, and she really was a girl, even tried to proposition a threesome with us...?  At that point I thought that maybe we were the only gays in the Village.  But how can this be?  It's Franschoek.  This little town is run by homosexuals.  Every little twirling-creeper covered cottage, villa filled section of land and guesthouse surrounded with epic mountains is probably got a little gay stuffed in there.  Ok, so then maybe it was festival specific...?

As the night went on it became clearer that the gays there are part of a different league of homo's.  The new wave of young guys, slightly emo, slightly alternative and slightly hippie, very care free and totally under the radar, is all rather attractive.  But they are also not waiting to be picked up... they do all the work.  Something tells me that I am going to really like this new wave of men.  This "new" wave rehash of the 60's movement of free love is very prevalent at something like this.  And the men really are taking it to a new level with all the old school hippie ideals right there behind them.

So now we are left wondering, do we ditch the neat clothes and shiny shoes and adopt the care free flimsy clothing that flutters so effortlessly amongst all the luminescent lights and decorations?  Do we ditch the bar seats for a grassy patch of earth?
And are we trading a trick in a bed for two tricks in a tent?
I don't know if it is the tired scene of clubbing - the usual music, the same miserable faces and the same barmen.  Or if I am just in the mood to try something new... But I want to do it again!  Taking a weekend to party in the sun during the day and party under the stars at night seems to be scratching that itchy spot of... "I really need to party, yo"
But doing it with some really awesome people makes it even more of a goodie.

Experiment with Understanding

Ok.
So I came across this song from "The Presets".  I have known about them for years but coming across an actual CD in South Africa feels hopeless sometimes.
So one of their songs lands on a CD and I am blown away at their development.
The song that stuck out is"If I Know You" - it grabbed my ear because it sounded really gay, and I thought he was singing to his lover.  On closer inspection of the lyrics I started to think that the song was about two guys (friends/brothers) who were sleeping with the same girl.  And the guy whose girlfriend it is, is singing to the other guy to back up.

How far off am I?

I will read the lyrics now, and then watch the music video and see if it changes my initial experience of the song...

Desmond & The Tutus @ the Assembly

I have seen these guys so many times and they always rock my boat. Last night was the first night I actually had the pleasure of viewing them all on my ace. Trying to find a gay guy that knows the band in this city is like trying to find an untweezed eye in a drag show.  So I was left to go alone because well lets face it, i dont really know enough people to pull the "last-minute-plan" with.  I guess in a relationship it works well because if you allow yourself to go with the flow I will often surprise you with something new to do and at the last minute... and that spontaneity is rather fun.  Why plan?

Anyway

They rocked my boat as usual and the student crowd were surprisingly very friendly last night, unfortunately I was in full self-involvement gear so i did not really catch anyones name i was actually drinking with. Thats the thing about the youth today, the girls buy drinks for a man with an over zealous sense of confidence and optimism.  Here is to the whole feminist movement hey!

So remember the name guys, its not a difficult one: Desmond and The Tutus

Going Down South.

OK.  So I bet you are thinking I am going to give you a quick blow job run down but in real life I am going to rant for a few minutes.
Why is it that artists miss a large part of Africa when they are performing live in a worldwide tour?  Are we not part of the world?
When I am oversees, the amount of concerts one can go to is unbelievable.  If I could I would spend a summer in London just watching live performances however I certainly don't have the financial means to make that a possibility.  So I wait here, patiently, in good old South Africa for artists to come and perform their music, so that I may have the pleasure of feeling the emotional ride I experience when I listen to their music, only live.
So to bring this post back to the first line, this sucks balls!

I have to give a big ups to Skunk Anansie, I have had the pleasure to see them live.  Twice.  Amazing!

Now I am a fan of music, all music, and we do have amazing local things to attend.  Local bands to relish in but once in a while can't the Northern Hemisphere throw us a bone and come perform the music we so delight in.

Artists I would give my left tit to see live:

Antony and the Johnsons

Bjork

Lamb

Everything but the Girl

PAG - THE LADY IS DEAD (song by: THE IRREPRESSIBLES - "IN THIS SHIRT")

Drum and Bass...Oos Rand se Kant

So, I am back in the East Rand, well Far East Rand to be exact and in the need to take a step back from all the all gay activities I have been so prone to attend I decided to hit a little whole in the wall called Black Dahlia. I went on a Thursday night because they host some DJs from a crew called Buttjigga that pound some Drum and Bass. I love Drum and Bass! I find it really really sexy some times to hear a different beat to move my hips to.

Now when I arrived a heavy metal band was playing. They were alright, a little juvenile in their approach to rock but I liked their style. Eventually it was time for the DJ's to play their set and naturally I was on the dance floor Jigga'ing my Butt! Very confidently the lead singer of the band is dancing right up in my space. At first I was a little weird ed out that I was so aggressively chased but being a man it only lasted a second before I thought "Damn, this is HOT!"

Needless to say that I was totally surprised to be hooking up with a hottie in a place that sold Wellington Brandy by the gallons... although Wellingtons is probably the reason I had a kiss and a tickle in a some what less than desirable toilet cubicle. Oh well, all in the name of HOT.

I am looking forward to this Thursday, lets see what Boksburg has to offer me.

Till next time.
Happy Hunting!

The season changes...

So, as spring approaches I feel the itch start of what is a season of partying, drug induced, outside in the sun surrounded with plants, festival, sex in tents fun partying! Lets just test the waters with a small little fetish party in Selby Johannesburg before I graduate to full festival swing.

Now Citrus Lounge is a very awesome venue with all its circles, the dance floor could stand to be a bit darker especially when Mark Stent's set is dark house and banging away. The music was awesome! That mans body is so awesome behind decks and when you feel the rush through your veins his music set vibrates the bones that holds you all together. Fantastic!

The crowd were fairly responsive to the whole fetish, fantasy idea. I think the whole thing would work better if the Jozzie boys will get over their insecurities and just slip into something a little bit sexier or fun for the event. Show those tattoos, bare some flesh, strap yourself into a harness or just drag it up if all else fails. I always try show flesh but this winter has been unkind to me so the party had to settle with me showing off only enough shoulder to see my tattoo and only enough chest remembering to keep the nurple-that's 'turned on nipple'-nurple, covered.

The party was a Kinx party, I remember Kinx from my film school days where on occasion I would need some leather paraphernalia or a big black dildo or even just when I wanted to look at a really hot man, I would go over to Kinx for a peak.

It was a good start to a season that promises to be filled with golden showers and morning glories...
Till next time
Happy hunting and good gardening!
